Pain can grow like the branches on a tree… This is a concept that has massively helped me throughout my pain journey and I regularly ask myself “Would I rather one problem or two ?”. I’ll explain…..
Primary Suffering refers to the raw pain signals and the sensations that are being sent directly to your brain that are hard to control. EG: stubbing your toe !
Secondary Suffering
is the emotional reaction ABOUT the pain signals such as frustration, loss and loneliness.
So by working on the secondary suffering and allowing the pain sensations (EG: I say to myself “it is what it is”), and not getting upset next time you miss out on an activity because of it, you are actually working towards having only one problem and that’s got to be better than two right ?
